Shitamachi Museum Annex

The Shitamachi Museum Annex (Former Yoshidaya Liquor Store) is an exhibition facility of the Shitamachi Museum located in Ueno Park. The building, which served as the “Yoshidaya” liquor shop for generations since the Edo period, was relocated to its current site. Built in 1910, the structure features the Dageki-zukuri style, characterized by eaves purlins extending beyond the brackets. The main entrance is equipped with Agedo (shutter doors) that open and close by sliding wooden and lattice panels up and down. These elements are distinctive features of merchant house architecture from the mid-Edo to Meiji periods. Inside, tools used for selling alcohol, such as scales and promotional posters, as well as various business-related historical materials, are on display.
